Taking care of pets
Since 1985

A tailored approach to your pet’s health

We provide the very best care for all kinds of pets – including experience with birds, and pocket pets.

We are committed to finding a tailored approach to  your pet’s health that will suit the animals health and needs – and also your needs, by discussing options and costs upfront.

The following services are undertaken in-house at the clinic, where we do our best to make our clients comfortable and treat all animals as if they were members of our own family.

Annual Health Checks & Consultations

We work with you to make sure your pets are as healthy as they can be. We are focussed on prevention, to avoid unexpected problems in the future. We can provide advice on diet, supplements and behaviour.

A microchip is a small implant about the same size as a grain of rice, implanted under the skin of an animal’s neck. Microchipping is a minor procedure, which can be done at any age – it is legally required for all non-working dogs, and highly recommended for cats and other species. A microchip is the best way to reunite a lost animal with their owners. Please discuss with our friendly staff the best time to do it for your pet.

Dental Care

Your pet’s dental health is very important to their general wellbeing. Our clinic has full dental equipment and facilities for routine scale and polishing, and also more intensive dental work, such as extractions, if required.

Desexing / Neutering

Unless you plan for your pet to have a family of its own, we recommend cats and dogs are desexed. There are many health and behavioural benefits when your pet is desexed. For cats we recommend desexing between 4-6 months of age. For dogs, the best age for desexing depends on the dog’s breed. We can discuss your individual situation and give you advice on the best timing.

When something’s not right with your pet, we are fully equipped to ascertain what’s wrong. If they require further tests, we have modern, diagnostic tools in our clinic at our disposal. These include: blood tests, urine tests, x-rays and ultrasound.

When a diagnosis has been made on your pet’s condition, we can then discuss a tailor-made route to treatment, so there are no surprises.

Surgical Facilities

We perform surgical procedures in-house, in a designated, sterile operating room, with thorough anaesthetic monitoring and veterinary nurses to ensure optimum safety of your pet. The types of surgical procedures we perform at the clinic include desexing, orthopaedic, soft tissue and abdominal surgery.

Hospital Care & Nursing

Sometimes your pet requires more intensive care and monitoring than can be managed at home. In some cases they require IV fluids/ injectable medications/ thorough monitoring. We want you to have the peace of mind that our nurses provide exceptional care and treat our patients as family. Our nurses also offer consultations for nail trimming, dental checks, weight checks and other minor procedures.

We moved to Matakana three years ago with an old boxer dog who has ongoing health problems, and two younger Saving Hope rescue dogs, that have joined our pack since then. Our boy, Mac, is a big, gentle, nervous giant, who has ended up with skin allergies needing seasonal treatment, despite what should be a many-mixes, stronger bloodline.  He is “worried” about everything but is welcomed and cared for whenever we visit so is unusually relaxed, despite his anxieties.

Both Bailey and Mac have had surgeries at the clinic, with great aftercare instructions and follow-ups.

We are always greeted with care and concern from the front desk and all clinical staff. Everyone is wonderful, but Tania is Mac and Bailey’s favourite.  She is so kind and gentle with them that they feel at ease, in fact look forward to their vet visit.  Tania never fails to not only look after our furbaby-of-the-moment, but follow-up on the health and welfare of her other patients, and of us – it feels like family.
